Hoy empezaos nuestro día viajando a Dodoni, donde vistamos un lugar arqueológico de interés turístico con un teatro, parlamento y templo de los Dioses griegos.
El asentamiento fue importante porque tiene un oráculo, un santuario con sacerdotisas quienes interpretaron el movimiento de las hojas del roble sagrado para decidir asuntos importantes.
Posteriormente llegamos a las montañas sagradas de Meteora, donde desde el siglo 9 los monjes han vivido, al principio en cuevas y posteriormente en monasterios construidos a partir del siglo 12. Actualmente solamente quedan 6 de los 40 que habían. Pudimos visitar uno y disfrutar de las maravillosas pinturas y vistas. Estas rocas son consideradas la segunda montaña más sagrada de todo Grecia.
Realizamos nuestro viaje hacia las provincias ubicadas en el norte y llegamos por la noche a la ciudad de Edessa. Mañana iremos al colegio de Messimeri.

 
Thursday 4th May
Today we began our day visiting Dodoni, an archaeological site with an ancient Greek theatre, parliament and temples to each of the Greek gods.
The settlement was important because it had an Oracle, a temple with female priests who interpreted the movement of the leaves of the sacred oak tree, and told the future and made important decisions for those who came to ask for help.
Then we arrived to the sacred and spectacular mountains of Meteora (UNESCO) where from the 9th century monks had lived, at first in caves and then from the 12th century in monasteries which they began to build on the top of the rocks. At one time there would have been 40 orthodox monasteries among these rocks, but now only 6 remain inhabited, and were able to visit one of these, dedicated to Saint Stephen.
These rocky outcrops are considered the second most holy mountain in Greece.
We made the 4 hour bus ride to the northern provinces and in the evening arrived to the town of Edessa, the name means “of the waters” because of the many rivers which cross in the village, the waterfalls and thermal springs. Tomorrow we will visit the school of Messimeri close by. 

Tercer día en Grecia

Hoy 2 de mayo dejamos Preveza para dirigirnos a las ruinas de la antigua ciudad de “Nikopolis”. Posteriormente realizamos un largo viaje hacia la isla de “Lefkada”, un emblemático lugar turístico donde realizamos un pequeño crucero pasando por algunas de las siete islas “Ionian”, algunas de propiedad privada. Después de entrar en una enorme cueva en un acantilado, paramos para darnos un baño en las aguas cristalinas del mar Egeo en una pequeña isla llamada “Meganisi”. Luego llegamos a la parte montañosa que rodea al pueblo de “Ionnina” 

 

3rd day in Greece

Today 2nd of May we left Preveza and travelled to the ruins of the ancient city of “Nikopolis”. Afterwards, we made a long trip, to the island of “Lefkada”, a popular resort from which we could take a small cruise passing between some of the seven Ionian islands, some privately owned. After entering into an enormous seacave, we stopped on the small island “Meganisi” to swim in the clear water of the Aegean Sea!
Then, we travelled high in the mountains to the village of Ioannina.

Llegada a Grecia

Hoy salimos de Madrid a las 12.55 y después de tomar el segundo vuelo en Atenas, llegamos en Salónica por la tarde.
Estuvimos encantadas de coincidir otra vez con los profesores de los colegios socios y empezamos el viaje al Oeste de Grecia, pasando por las plantaciones de melocotones, luego subiendo en altitud por las montañas de vegetación densa y bosques húmidos. A continuación paramos en un pueblo muy típico montañoso llamado Metsovo, y seguimos nuestro viaje hasta nuestro destino final en Preveza donde contemplamos el puerto.

  Arrival in Greece

Today we left Madrid at 12:55 and after changing flights in Athens, we arrived in Thessaloniki in the early evening.
We were pleased to meet once again this morning teaching staff from the partner schools and we began our bus journey to the west of Greece, passing through cultivations of peaches and later climbing into the green forested mountains. We stopped in the typical village of Metsovo, a historical mountain village. Later, we continued our journey to the coastal town of Preveza where were spent the night after visiting the harbour.
