EL COLEGIO MONTESCLAROS PARTICIPA EN EL PROYECTO “ERASMUS+ AN EXPERIENCE WITH AND FOR REFUGEES”

MONTESCLAROS SCHOOL IS INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT “ERASMUS+ AN EXPERIENCE WITH AND FOR REFUGEES”

A big welcome was given to our European friends who came to visit the Montesclaros school between the 9th and 11th of April, as part of our common Multilateral Partnership Project Erasmus+, a project funded by the European Union, and evaluated by our National Agency SEPIE. It is one of the many innovative schemes supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture as part of the Lifelong Programme.

We are very proud of taking part in this Project which aims to give all our students the chance to learn about this global problem and how their own country and others in the European Union are resolved to aid these communities.

In September of 2017 Montesclaros began the “Erasmus+ An Experience with and for Refugees” project, which was designed by our Portuguese Coordinator in order to enhance creativity and innovation in education, but also to help young people to acquire basic life skills necessary for their personal development. The idea has been that through taking part in workshops with refugees, visit some Refugees’ Reception Centres, seminars carried out by NGOs, searching for our national and international situation regarding refugees and sharing results of their projects with the school community and our European friends. Our children have been given the chance to develop team skills in some aspects of the project work, whilst all the time realizing and expanding on their own creativity. They have enjoyed using their imagination, improving on their communication skills and felt as though they occupy their place not just in our community but are a necessary and worthy member of our European Union. Learning about other cultures, cuisine, traditions, whilst in their family setting has been such an enriching experience for the students, teaching staff and parents who have participated. Five mobilities will be carried out during our 3 year project; our young adventurers were accompanied by Montesclaros teachers to Portugal, Italy, Greece, Hungary and Germany.

A continuación tomamos unos aperitivos.

Last days in Germany
Today 27th September, we went to the Town Hall, where the Mayor was waiting to welcome us. Next, we had some snacks. Then, we took a bus to go to Kelheim, where we took a cruise up the Danube River to Cloister Weltenburg. We had lunch in the Cloister Beergarden, Weltenburg. In the evening, teachers and students attended a farewell party given at our German partners’ school, where the attendance certificate giving ceremony took place. Afterwards, we tasted a Bavarian Buffet and finally, students went home with their families and teachers went to the hotel to rest.
On 28th September, our partners’ farewell was very emotive, but we know we will meet each other very soon. Our students will always have these friends forever and won’t forget this amazing experience in Germany. Finally, we went to the airport to go home.
